I am a young artist who works a few jobs on the side to pay the bills. Some of my gigs include being a dishwasher at a downtown restaurant, security officer at a trendy new bar, and a writer for a local music magazine. I hope most of these jobs are temporary, as I don’t want my years in art school to go to waste. Also, the hours that I spend on manual labor as a dishwasher are really bothering my hands – I’m a painter, after all.

I’ve had my share of group exhibits in Richmond, Novato, Antioch, Walnut Creek, Redwood City, Hayward, Oakland, and Concord, and most of my paintings were well-received. I have also managed to sell a few, which went towards having my ancient El Dorado fixed, and having my loft remodeled. The income from my art, however, was far from steady, which is why I’ve had to juggle my gigs. I almost ran out of money once, when the old spackle in my loft gave way, exposing a slew of really old wiring. It turns out that I had to get my home’s electrical system fixed, or otherwise risk losing my home and all my belongings to a fire that could happen any minute.

I could not afford the electrician’s estimate. He told me it would take the better part of a week to re-scheme and reroute, as well as rewire. So I went online to get some quick money. I filled out the application form in less than two minutes, got approved in five seconds, and had the money for repairs, all in the space of a few hours. Fancy that.
